River works on course in Buxton and Chapel

Work to repair river banks in Buxton and Chapel and restore them to their original condition is on course following the appointment of contractors to carry out the schemes.

High Peak Borough Council has agreed the appointment of Alliance Group Solutions to rebuild the eroded river bank at Warm Brook in Chapel and Whitehouse Construction to repair the weir at the Serpentine in Buxton to ensure the river follows its intended route.

Councillor Tony Ashton, Leader of the Council, said: "The work to repair erosion to the river banks at both sites is essential so I'm pleased that, after the specification and tender process, we are able to appoint contractors for the works.

"We know that people enjoy visiting the local amenities at Warm Brook and the Serpentine and once these repairs are finished and the areas restored to their original conditions they will again be enjoyed in safety."

The appointment of the contractors follows consultation with the Environment Agency, Historic England and land owners. The proposals have been subject to planning applications so local residents have also had the opportunity to comment.

The contractors will also be required to keep local residents informed of the works.
