Improving your environmental performance

The principle business support programme available in High Peak is the D2N2 Growth Hub. This offers a range of online toolkits, telephone and face-to-face advice to help entrepreneurs develop business ideas or support existing businesses to grow or address challenges.

NEW closing January 2022 D2N2 LEP Low Carbon Growth (Capital Investment)Fund

Small and medium-sized businesses, public sector organisations, and community groups developing low carbon projects across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire are being urged to apply for investment through the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership's new Low Carbon Growth Fund.

All projects must involve capital expenditure which delivers an end asset related to Low Carbon Growth, no revenue submissions will be accepted to this funding round. Funding will be capped at £1.5m of D2N2 funding per project to enable the pot to invest in numerous key strategic investments and all funding is for capital interventions.

All questions and queries regarding this funding round must be made before the 12th of January 2022. Submission deadline for all bids to the LEP - 28th January 2022

The project must demonstrate sustainable carbon reduction through the project through the reduction of current or prevention of future emissions or through carbon sequestration and assist in economic growth by creating new jobs (including apprenticeships) or businesses through the intervention. Bidders should be able to demonstrate match funding towards any project of up to 50%. Projects must be able to start delivery in the 2022/23 financial year.

The Green entrepreneurs fund  is a £2 million grant fund for businesses interested in developing and investing in green energy and carbon reduction schemes open to small and medium sized businesses based in Derbyshire with up to 250 staff and micro-business with up to 10 staff. Grants of £10,000 to £20,000 for new and existing businesses with game changing proposals in alternative energy, clean fuel and carbon reduction. £500,000 will be made available through this fund. Please note that the first round of applications has now closed.

The  De-Carbonise project provides free energy audits and support for SMEs across Derbyshire together with grants of between £1,000 and £20,000 

The Low Carbon Business Network is a project delivered by the University of Derby to support SMEs who supply low carbon environmental goods and services. It has aimed to raise small businesses visibility and boost demand for their products and services, support on low carbon product research as well as offer free on-line courses to gain green accreditation.

The Good Life Energy Team offers free and impartial advice to businesses to review your existing energy charges and find the best tariffs to suit your business needs (includes gas, electricity, water, oil & LPG, including resolution of disputes and review of any levy charges). The scheme is managed by South Staffordshire Council but is open to all businesses throughout the country and has helped firms save 70% on renewal offers. Freephone 03333 058 671.

The natural environment investment readiness fund grant (NEIRF) is a national competitive grants scheme providing grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 to support the development of environmental projects in England that:

  • help achieve one or more natural environmental outcomes from the government's 25 year environment plan
  • have the ability to produce revenue from ecosystem services to attract and repay investment
  • produce an investment model that can be scaled up and reproduced

It aims to stimulate private investment and market based mechanisms that improve and safeguard our domestic natural environment by helping projects get ready for investment. You can apply for an NEIRF grant between 8 November 2021 and 3 February 2022.

The Clean Growth Fund provides funding for companies developing green technology across a wide range of sectors, including transport, waste and building energy efficiency.

The National Farmer Union provides Energy Advice for Farmers to help you find best energy deals, technical advice on renewables and efficiency guidance. They also have a buying group with discounts for members. Contact info@nfu.co.uk

Energy monitoring support is available for smaller companies in the retail and hospitality sector through the Carbon Trust and Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). See information sheet.

The Clean Air day campaign has produced a range of free resources for workplaces and community groups relevant to improving air quality. 

The Workplace Charging Scheme (ECS) for businesses to purchase and install new workplace charging stations to allow companies to move towards electric fleets or support workforce with electric vehicles.

The Ecargo Bike Grant Fund offers businesses who deliver small goods to customers within a short distance or parcels or courier services? You may want to consider ecargo bikes as more sustainable form of transport than using vehicles. A grant is currently available from Department of Transport for up to 40% of the total cost of an ecargo bike, either two-wheel or three-wheel models. 

The Council now offers a Business waste recycling service covering glass, plastic, cartons, food tints, aerosols, paper and cardboard. This is a pay-for service with a range of container sizes on offer.
