Tier 4 restrictions in place in High Peak

Published on 31 December 2020

From today (Thursday 31 December) High Peak, along with the rest of Derbyshire and many other areas of England, will be subject to the highest Tier 4 restrictions aimed at limiting the spread of coronavirus.

This means that people must stay at home, except for essential reasons such as work, education and food shopping, and that they must not meet indoors with anyone they don't live with or are in a support bubble with.

It is now only permitted to meet one other person outdoors and non-essential retail and personal care services must close.

Councillor Anthony Mckeown, Leader of High Peak Borough Council, said: "This will come as particularly unwelcome news at the end of a challenging year when we have all made so many sacrifices. Many locals will also be concerned about the impact of the restrictions on our community and struggling businesses.

"But the rapid rise in cases across the country, linked to the new variant, shows that Covid remains a genuine threat to us and our loved ones. So we must continue our efforts and pull together across the High Peak to do everything we can to protect ourselves and those we care about.

"There is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine roll out now underway, and a second vaccine now approved for use, so 2021 looks brighter than the year now ending. We are working with our health partners across the High Peak to support the vaccination rollout in our area and I want to encourage everyone to take the opportunity to be vaccinated when it is offered to them. Doing this will help us move to a point where we can start to see a return to the things we've missed sooner rather than later."

Officers at the Council are reviewing details on changes to the financial support available to businesses and we expect to confirm any changes to the arrangements early next week. Details will be available on the Council's coronavirus hub www.highpeak.gov.uk/Coronavirus-Business-Financial-Support
