Following the announcement today of the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Ed Kelly, and the Leader of the Council, Councillor Anthony Mckeown, paid this tribute:
"It is with great sadness that we in the High Peak learned of the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In his long and eventful life, the Prince has been a steadfast companion to The Queen and has dedicated his life to public service.
"He has supported many charities and helped inspire many young people with the founding of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
"On behalf of our residents and everyone at the Council we send our deepest condolences to The Queen and the Royal Family and join communities across the UK and the world in mourning his loss."
As a mark of respect, the flags on Buxton Town Hall and Hadfield Hall, at Norfolk Square in Glossop and in Manor Park have been lowered to half-mast.
The Council is also reviewing meetings, events and Mayoral engagements due to take place in the coming days.
Consideration is also being given to arrangements for floral tributes and books of condolence which will need to take account of the current Covid restrictions and guidelines.
