Investing in health and wellbeing in High Peak

As the gym areas at MyActive Glossop re-open following improvement works, the Borough Council has renewed its commitment to investing in health and wellbeing facilities across the High Peak.

Some areas of the leisure centre, which have been closed whilst essential repair work takes place, have now re-opened and work is nearing completion in the squash courts. Further works are planned in the studio area in the coming weeks.

The gym areas have been refreshed with bright new décor and new cardiovascular equipment has been installed to welcome members and visitors back.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, joined members for the re-opening on Wednesday (17 September) morning.

He said: "It's absolutely brilliant to see our community back in the gym, enjoying these revitalised spaces. I know the temporary closures have been tough and I want to thank everyone - members, staff and visitors - for their patience and understanding.

"What you see here today is more than just fresh paint and new equipment. It's a clear signal that we, as a Council, are investing in your health, your wellbeing and your future. Through MyActive, our very own Council-controlled company, we're putting people first making it easier, and more inspiring, to move more, feel better, and live well.

"Physical activity isn't a luxury - it's essential. That's why we're committed to creating modern, welcoming and fully equipped spaces that support every person in High Peak to lead a healthier, happier life. And our commitment doesn't stop at the gym doors. It extends to our parks, trails and green spaces too because we know that nature, wellbeing and movement go hand in hand. This is just the beginning, and I can't wait to see what we achieve together."

The Council established Alliance Leisure Limited (trading as MyActive) to run High Peak's three leisure centres and the services they provide in October last year.
