Supporting our Armed Forces this November

This November waste and recycling vehicles in the High Peak will once again proudly display poppies as the nation comes together in the annual act of remembrance to honour the Armed Forces community.

The Royal British Legion, the UK's biggest armed forces charity, runs the annual poppy appeal campaign to raise the funds it needs to support service men, women, and their families whenever and wherever they need it.

High Peak Borough Council and its waste collection partner Alliance Environmental Services are supporting the appeal, and the people it helps, as they do every year.

Councillor Jean Todd, Executive Councillor for Climate Change and Environment, said: "Our waste and recycling fleet is a familiar sight to residents across the High Peak so dressing our vehicles with poppies is a very visual way for us to show our support for our Armed Forces community.

"Their selfless service and sacrifice is an example to us all, and the Royal British Legion does such valuable work to support veterans and their families. The poppy appeal raises much-needed funds to help them in their work and we're proud be supporting that appeal."

Services of remembrance will be taking place throughout the High Peak on Sunday 9 November. The Council, alongside a range of volunteers, has organised services in Buxton, Glossop and Hadfield and you can find out more details on our website.

The Council has pledged its ongoing commitment to our service personnel by signing the Armed Forces Covenant - a promise made by the nation to ensure that those who serve, or have served, and their families are treated fairly.
