Upgrading leisure facilities in Buxton and Glossop

The enhancements are being delivered as part of the Council's Leisure Transformation Plan and have been developed in partnership with MyActive, the council's leisure and wellbeing company, based on customer feedback.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: "I'm delighted that we're continuing our investment by purchasing this new equipment and upgrading the look, feel and usability of our MyActive centres in Buxton and Glossop.

"Moving more and being active underpins good physical and mental health. We're committed to ensuring people across the High Peak have access to quality sports and leisure facilities to support healthy lifestyles - and listening to what people want is key to that.

"That's why I'm particularly pleased that we're acting on feedback from our customers and providing new gym equipment, including a new fleet of spin bikes at both centres, alongside the improvements to modernise exercise spaces so that they complement the enhancements made in other parts of the buildings as well as Active Zones in our Borough's parks."

The work at MyActive Buxton includes replacing old equipment at the end of its life with new premium cardiovascular and strength training items along with new spin bikes featuring the latest technology enabling greater participant engagement and feedback.

A new safety floor will also be installed in the free weights area and the fitness suite will be refurbished. The work is expected to take up to four weeks and has been phased to minimise disruption, but the gym will need to be closed from 31 July and is expected to re-open on 8 August.

At MyActive Glossop the improvements include a new suite of Technogym spin bikes and a Technogym virtual system creating a more immersive experience. The studio environment is being improved with a new ceiling and enhanced LED lighting.

The work in Glossop is now underway with the new spin bikes due to be delivered by the end of July. The gym and classes will remain open as usual.

The enhancements at Glossop are the latest in a series of improvements that have been introduced over the last year.
