September opening for Glossop Halls Mezzanine

Exciting new retail and leisure activities are set to launch in Glossop's historic Market Hall next month when the much-anticipated Mezzanine opens.

Work to install automatic air vents in the glazed roof over the main hall and the Mezzanine walkways starts this week - the final element of the transformation of the Halls.

The scaffolding is now up and the Halls will remain open throughout the works which are expected to take around four weeks.

This landmark destination has attracted over half a million visits since it opened after the Council-led project to regenerate these heritage buildings and give them a new lease of life.

The Mezzanine has been designed to complement the existing food, drink and retail businesses already trading by offering new products, services and experiences.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: "I'm pleased that this work is now underway - it means we can now look forward to fully opening the Mezzanine in September which completes the transformation of the Halls into a thriving destination for the whole community.

"Glossop Market Hall has quickly become a genuine hub supporting independent businesses and creating a welcoming place for the community and visitors from further afield to spend their leisure time. It's exactly what we set out to achieve and we are thrilled with the results.

"The new businesses and experiences coming to the Mezzanine level will only add to what brings people here and really cement the Halls as a place people want to visit for years to come."
