Popular walking festival returns to High Peak this autumn
Residents and visitors are being invited to step into the great outdoors and enjoy our stunning local landscapes, villages and towns when the popular High Peak Walking Festival returns in September.
The festival is taking place from 18 to 27 September and is a chance for everyone to enjoy the early autumn colours and discover why the High Peak is one of the best places for walking in the Peak District.
From leisurely strolls and family-friendly walks to self-guided routes and more challenging hikes, there's something for walkers and ramblers of all ages and abilities.
The festival includes a mix of free community walks and bookable guided experiences led by knowledgeable local experts offering themed walks and insights into the High Peak's unique landscapes and history.
Amongst the highlights is an inspiring evening with local adventurer Ken Reece who will share the story of the long-distance 155 mile walk he has created through the stunning landscapes of the Peak District. Join us from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday 22 September in Buxton's Pump Room to hear more about how he turned his idea for 'Walking the Peak Way' into reality.
Councillor Anthony Mckeown, Leader of the Council, said: "It's great to welcome the walking festival back to the High Peak for the third year.
"The festival highlights the range of opportunities we have on our doorstep, from hill walking to canal trails and so much more, giving people the opportunity to experience what's great about the High Peak from our towns and villages and landscapes to our people.
"In addition to the many great walks, we also have a host of great eateries with something for every taste and budget. So why not join us for a walk and then sample some of our famous hospitality?"
The towns and villages of the High Peak offer independent shops, cosy cafes and pubs serving local produce, and unique artisan businesses. The festival is the perfect opportunity to combine a great day out with fantastic places to eat, shop and stay.
