Building bridges in Ashwood Park

The £310,000 project to replace and re-open bridges in Buxton's Ashwood Park is now complete.

High Peak Borough Council and Buxton Town Team have worked collaboratively together to secure funding of £110,000 from Tarmac which, together with £200,000 from the Council, has funded the replacement of the two bridges at the town end of the park and the re-opening a third bridge which has been closed for several years.

Councillor Rob Baker, Assistant Executive Member, said: "The bridges are looking great, and they're another welcome improvement to Ashwood Park, building on our investment in the new Active Zone which opened earlier this year and is already proving popular.

"As we head into the darker months, it's more important than ever that people have opportunities to get outdoors, move more and stay active. Good quality, well-maintained parks and green spaces give people places to walk, exercise, meet others, or simply enjoy being outside and, importantly, they're free for everyone to use.

"That's why investing in our parks and green spaces remains a priority for the Council. By working alongside local volunteers and organisations such as Buxton Town Team, we can continue to improve these spaces and make sure they remain places that communities can enjoy and take pride in.

"I'd encourage everyone to get out, explore their local parks and make the most of what we have right here on our doorstep."

The Council's commitment to investing in parks and green spaces is set out in the Parks Strategy which is supported by management plans for each site including Ashwood Park.

This latest project in Ashwood Park is one of several in the management plan aimed at improving access to and through the park and further developments, including new seating, planting, and active trails are planned.
