Community come together to improve Gamesley
Residents in Gamesley showed their community spirit and a real desire to improve where they live at a recent action day to clean up the area and make it a more welcoming place for everyone.
The impact day was organised by High Peak Borough Council's housing team who were acting on feedback from residents and observations they had made during neighbourhood walkabouts.
Working together with Gamesley residents, local community groups including G52 and the community centre, other Council services, and the Police, the team filled around 30 skips, collected 50 bags of litter, and removed bulky and unwanted items from homes and gardens.
Executive Councillor for Housing, Fiona Sloman, joined the community clean up. She said: "I really enjoyed meeting residents in Gamesley and I'd like to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and for playing such an active part on the day. We all deserve to live in a safe, clean environment and, by working together, we've helped to smarten up Gamesley and make this community a better one for everyone.
"The community spirit and willingness to help neighbours was commendable. The results show just what a difference we can make - a fantastic effort that Gamesley can be proud of.
"We'll be looking to organise more action days like this in our housing neighbourhoods and to support our tenants to improve where they live. If you have something you'd like to raise, please do get in touch with the team and we'll see what we can do."
Echoing Councillor Sloman's comments, Leader of the Council, Councillor Anthony McKeown, said: "I would like to thank all of our staff and volunteers who took part in the clean up. Their collective efforts have helped spruce up the patch and, with the help of the volunteers at the repair café, helped return some items to working order."
The Council will continue to work with partners to address other issues in the area including the former pub and early excellence centre buildings on Winster Mews.
