Memorial Park, Whaley Bridge

Memorial Park was created in 1920 to commemorate the loss of 108 Whaley Bridge men in the First World War.

Parking

There is a car park next to the sports pavilion off Park Road.
Pedestrian entrances are on Goyt Road, Wheatsheaf Road and Reservoir Road.

Facilities and features

Resoration project

We were awarded £478,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund and BIG Lottery in 2010 towards a major project to restore the park's original layout and landscaping features. Work included  

  • restoration of the cenotaph
  • a new childrens play area
  • a new pedestrian bridge over Todd Brook
  • improvements to pedestrian entrances 

Green Flag award

For the last two years Memorial Park has won a Green Flag award and is named as one of the best parks in the country. The flag flies by the Wheatsheaf Road entrance to the park.

Friends of Memorial Park

Since the completion of the restoration project the friends group have been organising events and activities in the park, carrying out practical projects with the support of the Park Ranger and fund raising to further improve the park.

The photography competition has closed and entries have been judged. The new 2017 Memorial Park calendar is available from various places in Whaley Bridge.
