BTEC and NVQ Professional Qualification

The Council's Hackney Carriage an Private Hire Licensing Policy 2016 states that all licensed drivers whose applications were made after 1st November 2016 must complete and successfully achieve a pass in either the BTEC Level 2 certificate in the introduction to the role of the Professional Taxi or Private Hire Driver or the NVQ level 2 certificate in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (Taxi and Private Hire Driver), or obtain an equivalent qualification within 1 year of the initial grant of licence. All Drivers licensed before 1st November 2016 must complete and successfully achieve a pass in either Certificate by 31st October 2019. Drivers who do not comply with this requirement will not be able to renew their licence.

Current licences will only be renewed up to this date regardless of how long you pay for. The Licensing Authority does not place any restriction on where the BTEC or NVQ qualification is obtained, as long as it meets the criteria above. The Authority does not provide access to BTEC /NVQ Training and it is up to the individual applicant to source their own training provision within the timescale set.

Safeguarding

The Council's Hackney Carriage an Private Hire Licensing Policy 2016 states that all drivers must attend a safeguarding course approved by the Authority. From 1st November 2016 this is a pre-application requirement, and an application from any applicant who has not met this requirement will not be accepted.

If you have already completed the Council's Safeguarding Awareness Training Course, your details will be retained by the Authority and will be validated at renewal of your licence. If you are a licensed driver with High Peak Borough Council and you have NOT completed the Council's Safeguarding Course, you must register your interest by emailing licensing@highpeak.gov.uk and you will be notified of the next available training course. Failure to register or complete the approved course will mean that your licence may not be renewed.
