New images released of MyActive New Mills redevelopment
With the planning application for the major upgrade of MyActive New Mills set to be submitted, the Borough Council has shared new images showing what people can expect from the redevelopment.
The Council is investing around £3.5m in the improvements which include:
· Retaining the existing four court sports hall
· Converting the squash court and part of the dry changing area to double the size of the existing gym
· Creating a mezzanine floor above the squash court and part of the existing gym to create a large group exercise studio
· Converting the existing group exercise studio into an Active Wellbeing Suite
· Upgrading the space currently used for indoor cycling classes into a dedicated immersive indoor cycling studio
· Refurbishing the pool viewing area with enhanced seating options
· Redecorating the existing reception space and enhancing the food and drink offering
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to reveal these exciting new images, offering a glimpse into the incredible transformation coming to MyActive New Mills! This £3.5m investment is a game-changer for our local community, and it's fantastic to see our vision for a modern, state-of-the-art facility taking shape.
"Supporting people to move more and stay active is a key priority for this Council and local councillors, and this redevelopment is a huge step forward in making that a reality. It's about creating a vibrant, inclusive space that fosters health, fitness, and wellbeing for everyone. With more flexible areas for exercise, wellness and social activities, we're ensuring that New Mills becomes a true community hub for people of all ages and abilities.
"What's even more exciting is the opportunity this gives us to work closely with health and care services, delivering real, long-term benefits to the community. We're not just promoting physical health but also supporting people's mental and social wellbeing. The enthusiasm from residents has been incredible, and I can't wait for the planning application to be submitted and for us to bring this exciting project to life."
The plans were drawn up by architects and specialist consultants and were the subject of public consultation between November 2024 and January 2025. Over 650 people completed an online survey or shared their views at a well attended public meeting in New Mills Town Hall.
The planning application will be available to view on the Council's website once it is submitted and people will be able to comment on the application in the usual ways.
