Carelink service enters final weeks

Carelink services will end later this month following the difficult decision to close the service, the Council has announced.

The Council has been in regular contact with Carelink customers by letter and telephone since the decision was made and has written to all customers, their families, and carers again this week to confirm the service will end on 19 October for customers living in their own homes and residents in housing association homes and at Northlands.

Residents in the Council's sheltered accommodation will continue to receive day-to-day warden support and new arrangements are being introduced for out-of-hours alarm monitoring, falls response and emergency access to the buildings.

Executive Councillor for Housing, Fiona Sloman, said: "As we make the final arrangements to end the Carelink service I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our clients for their understanding, patience and cooperation and our staff who, at a difficult time, have shown care and professionalism for which we are very grateful.

"In tough times, it's been arduous but worthwhile work to find providers offering similar services in the High Peak. We've identified two suppliers and provided all our customers with information about these companies as well as offering them support to help them move to a new provider if they wish to.

"We did not make this decision lightly and supporting vulnerable people across the High Peak remains our priority. I want to reassure people that we continue to be available to support people when Carelink services end and I would urge anyone wanting advice to contact us. We'll also be keeping information about alternative providers on our website for people to access at any time."

Anyone who wishes to continue to receive a telecare or emergency response service after 19 October is strongly encouraged to secure alternative provision before then as the Council will be unable to provide any Carelink services after that date.

Two companies that offer a falls response service across the High Peak - Medequip Connect and Derbyshire Light Medical - will be attending the High Peak Together event at Glossop Cricket Club on Saturday 3 October from 11am to 3pm. Anyone interested in their services is invited to come along to find out more, see their vehicles and equipment, and, if they haven't already, sign up for their services if they wish.
