The HSHAZ is a £95 million nationwide government funded programme, which is being delivered by Historic England with partners such as High Peak Borough Council. Buxton was selected as one of more than 60 towns across the country to receive a share of the grant and secured £926,700 with a further £100,000 awarded to the HSHAZ Cultural Consortia (Buxton Our Street).
Now in its final year, the HSHAZ programme has supported the repair and reinstatement of historic shop fronts, secured urgent works to a priority Building at Risk, supported a diverse cultural and educational programme designed to celebrate our high street as well as giving the local community a key role in deciding what works and what you want to see happening in Buxton.
The grant scheme has now awarded grants to the following projects:
Ponden Homes (6-8 Spring Gardens) - Historic Shopfront Reinstatement
Fitzgeralds Bakery (10-12 Spring Gardens) - Historic Shopfront Reinstatement
Progress photos of both properties
3C Grove Parade—Restoration of traditional sash windows
Former White Lion—Major repair and restoration scheme
Cavendish Arcade Colonnade—Repair survey
Urn—Reinstatement of missing urn
Cultural Programme
Historic England is also working with local people and partners to unlock the rich heritage on these high streets, through repair and improvement works as well as arts and cultural programmes, making them more attractive to residents, businesses, tourists and investors.
As part of the HSHAZ, Buxton has received grant funding to run a cultural programme which aims to enliven with art, performances, workshops, games and more. This part of the scheme is run by a cultural consortium 'Buxton Our Street'.
