Changes to food and garden waste collections begin

New weekly food waste collections and changes to garden waste collections are set to start across the High Peak this week.

Alliance Environmental Services, the Council's waste and recycling collection partner, has delivered a small kitchen caddy, a larger outdoor caddy, a roll of compostable bags, and information about the new service, to all residential properties in the borough in readiness for the start of the food waste collections.

Residents living in properties with a communal bin store have received the small kitchen caddy and either outside caddies or a communal food bin.

Discretionary garden waste collections have also now ended and an opt-in subscription scheme has also been introduced. Everyone wishing to continue to benefit from this service can register and pay the £46 annual subscription fee on the Council's website.

Executive Councillor for Climate Change and Environment, Jean Todd, said: "We've provided every household with the food collection caddies and information about the changes to food and garden waste collections so everyone knows what to expect as these changes come into effect.

"The information is also available on our website where residents who haven't yet subscribed to the garden waste collection service and want to do so can sign up. We're also offering subsidised composting bins for people who don't want to subscribe and prefer to manage their waste at home.

"Thanks to all our residents in advance for their co-operation as these new services begin."
